The 22Na source of positrons

 

As a source of positrons we use an isotope of Sodium (22Na), which emits them when a proton makes a beta decay:

 

 

Since this process is a three body decay the positron is not emitted with a fixed energy, but it has a spectra with the end point energy of 543keV.
